Democrat Lawmaker Calls Texas National Guard ‘Bloodthirsty,’ Falsely Blames Them For Drownings

U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) referred to the Texas National Guard as “bloodthirsty” for installing physical barriers on the southern border. Castro went on to repeat the claim that Texas is responsible for the drowning of three perspective border crossers in the Rio Grande River earlier this month, something Texas has vehemently denied.

“Greg Abbott has made this his number one boogeyman issue. I mean, he uses migrants at this point as political scarecrows to try to scare everybody else,” Castro told Inside Texas Politics. “Republicans have gotten very bloodthirsty when it comes to the issue of immigration and border security.”

He went on to blame Texas for the drowning of three people in the Rio Grande River earlier this month. Texas officials have cited Mexican government reports, who informed the Biden Administration of the drownings well in advance.

In addition, Border Patrol agents were only alerted to the drownings after the Mexican government had already recovered the bodies, according to a statement from the Texas Military Department.

Still, the far-left congressman has attributed the deaths to the Texas National Guard, accusing them of “preventing CBP from rescuing a mom and two kids, an eight-year-old and a 10-year-old kid who drowned.”

“I’ll say this: Republicans have gotten very bloodthirsty when it comes to the issue of immigration and border security. And you imagine what it takes for people in uniform And you imagine what it takes for people in uniform to prevent other people from rescuing drowning individuals,” Castro said.

The far-left lawmaker has also called on President Biden to federalize the Texas National Guard and seize control of the Shelby Park area. “If Abbott is defying yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling … [Biden] needs to establish sole federal control of the Texas National Guard now,” Castro wrote in an X post.

Despite the threats, Abbott has refused to back down and has received support from more than 20 red state governors. He has also warned the Biden Administration against federalizing the Texas National Guard.
