Lauren Boebert Blindsided By Shocking Update On The Campaign Trail

Republicans in Colorado’s 4th District aren’t too keen on the idea of a carpetbagger representing them next year, a grievance they recently directed at Congressman Lauren Boebert (R-CO).

Over the weekend, nine Republican candidates running to replace outgoing Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) participated in a debate in Fort Lupton. The raucous affair, where Boebert repeatedly emphasized that the race was not a “coronation,” was quickly followed by a straw poll putting her a distant fifth in the race.

The controversial congresswoman received 12 votes from debate watchers, or about 10 percent of the total cast.

The 4th district’s race is shaping up to be a contentious contest pitting Rep. Boebert against a wall of rivals intent on tearing her down to their level. Throughout the debate, others in the race repeatedly chastised Boebert for switching districts; after narrowly surviving her 2022 reelection in the 3rd district, she announced plans to move into the 4th and run for a third term.

“Could you give the definition of carpetbagger?” State Rep. Mike Lynch asked Boebert according to Colorado Newsline.

For her part, Boebert said she is proud to be Weld County’s “newest resident.”

“My boys and I needed a fresh start. That’s been very public of what home life looked like,” she said. Boebert is newly divorced, and her ex-husband was recently arrested for alleged domestic violence incidents involving her and her son.

“I tried to put it into a very pretty package and bring my ex-husband lots of honor. But since there is nothing private about my personal life, it is out there and my boys need some freedom from what has been going on,” she said.

Perhaps most revealing was a refusal by all other candidates to support Boebert if they were not running.

Rep. Boebert has cast her move as shrewd politics intended to support the larger party. She said leaving the 3rd district allows Republicans to introduce a stronger Republican candidate, though that didn’t stop the debate crowd from largely coalescing behind state Sen. Jerry Sonnenberg.

Boerbert, who reported $1.4 million cash on hand in October, recently got into hot water after appearing on security footage inside a movie theater where she was vaping and flirting with a male moviegoer. She has since apologized for causing a scene and asked for voters’ forgiveness.
