New York Citizens Arrest Shoplifting Migrant Live On ‘Hannity’

On Tuesday night, a live segment on “Hannity” captured the Guardian Angels, a volunteer group renowned for their red berets and safety patrols, in action on the streets of New York City. They were in the process of apprehending a migrant accused of shoplifting.

Host Sean Hannity switched to the live feed showing the Guardian Angels detaining the man involved in the alleged theft.

Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa criticized New York City Mayor Eric Adams for “giving illegal aliens everything,” in response to a new initiative providing prepaid credit cards to migrant families in hotels.

Sliwa expressed his disdain on the Fox News interview, calling himself “his No. 1 hater” and accused Adams of ruining the city.

“They arrive in our city, imagine, you check in your hotel, you get concierge service, and bam! You get a $1,000 debit card that you can use for the whole month,” Sliwa said. “You get more money than any veteran, any homeless person, any emotionally disturbed person in New York City gets. That’s an absolute outrage.”

“This mayor just doesn’t seem to get it. He takes care of the illegal aliens, and forsakes his own people,” Sliwa said.

Later in the show, Hannity revisited Sliwa to clarify the events that unfolded during his live segment.

“He had been shoplifting first, the Guardian Angels spotted him, stopped him, he resisted, and let’s just say we gave him a little pain compliance. His mother back in Venezuela felt the vibrations,” he explained.

“He’s sucking concrete, the cops scraped him off the asphalt, he’s on his way to jail, but they’ll cut him loose. We’ve got to take 42nd Street back, Sean, these illegals think they own this street. They think they rule the night. This is our country.”

The New York Post said that the man was trying to interrupt Sliwa’s live broadcast. The NYPD confirmed, “Officers were informed that the male had repeatedly attempted to interfere with and disrupt a live television interview. The male was issued a summons for disorderly conduct,” according to a statement given to the publication.

Since last spring, more than 160,000 migrants have been processed in New York City, with about 68,000 remaining in shelters according to Politico. Adams has highlighted the financial strain this situation places on the city, estimating a cost of $12 billion over three years.

The city has struggled to establish sufficient emergency facilities for housing migrants, leading to steep budget cuts across various departments. Adams has also criticized the federal government for inadequate support, which has exacerbated the city’s budget challenges.

However, Adams has stood firm in support of the debated $53 million prepaid credit card initiatives, despite widespread criticism. In a statement made during a state legislative budget session in Albany on Tuesday, the Democratic mayor attempted to clear up what he termed “misinformation” surrounding the prepaid credit card scheme.

“We’re not giving people American Express cards,” said Adams.

“We found that the food delivery service that we set up during the emergency — we could find a better way to do it in our belief that we want to cut 20% of the migrant costs. So, we have a pilot project with 500 people that we are giving them food cards, so instead of a debit card, instead of having to deliver food, and have people eat food — we were seeing wasting food — they’re now able to get their own food, that is going to be spent $12 a day.”
