Retired Police Lieutenant Charged With Manslaughter After Gun Discharges In Library During Training, Striking Officer

A retired Washington, D. C., Metropolitan Police Lieutenant is facing involuntary manslaughter charges after his gun went off and killed a special police officer inside a library, according to Fox 5.

Authorities received a call around 3:32 p.m. Thursday for a shooting inside the Anacostia Neighborhood Library, Fox 5 reported. Upon arrival, authorities found 25-year-old Maurica Manyan of Indian Head, Maryland unconscious and not breathing, authorities said. Manyan was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the report.
