Super Bowl-Winning Quarterback Jim McMahon Scorches Biden: ‘Close The Damn Border’

Jim McMahon, the veteran NFL quarterback who captained the 1985 Chicago Bears to their historic Super Bowl win under coach Mike Ditka, had some fiery words of wisdom for President Joe Biden to heed on how to handle the southern border crisis.

The New Jersey native and two-time champion spoke recently about his foray into the cannabis market with former offensive lineman Kyle Turnery, expounding on some of the challenges he sees confronting the nascent industry. Besides regularly struggling to secure loans or even deposit profits with federally-backed banks, McMahon said the Biden administration’s open border policies are making life harder for all Americans in a myriad of ways.

“I’d close the damn borders for one and then go find all the people that got in here illegally,” he said, according to the American Tribune. “It’s ridiculous. We’re paying all this money as taxpayers, and it’s not helping us at all. We’re sending it all overseas, you know. Who knows where we’re sending it, but it’s not being used here in the states.”

Noting California’s trouble with homelessness and rampant drug use, McMahon added that aggressive overspending to address both flipped the state’s heady, Covid-era money position to the red.

“You look at California. They get the most money every year for homelessness, and they got the worst homeless population in the country or probably the world. There’s just so many things going wrong. We got to just stop the crazy spending and printing money and close our borders and let’s clean house.”

The cannabis industry has come together to push for the SAFER Act, a bipartisan bill sponsored by Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) that aims to introduce “protections for federally regulated financial institutions that serve state-sanctioned marijuana businesses.”

“We’re trying to get the message out about this cannabis plant and about fair banking. We’re trying to bring awareness, not only to the cannabis industry but things that are going bad in this country,” McMahon told viewers. “We’re going to make a little bit of noise. We might get some votes just for the cannabis part. We’re gonna have some fun with it. We’re gonna try and grow our brand and make people aware about this plant. We’ll see what happens.”

For decades, the transportation of marijuana, cocaine, and other controlled substances were the backbone of Mexican cartels funneling hundreds of tons each year across the southern border. While fentanyl, a deadly synthetic opioid, remains a staple of cartel shipments, most mules have found human migrants to be more lucrative for transportation efforts.

Since President Biden took office, the number of illegal crossings has swelled from historic lows into a torrent never before seen. Officials estimate at least 10,000 illegal crossings occur daily, straining the abilities of states like Texas to operate a safe and humane border program without support from the Department of Homeland Security. The Lone Star State remains in a court battle with the Biden administration over the laying of razor wire along key crossing points.

Earlier this week, House Republicans took a critical step toward a full impeachment vote against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. If successful, the measure, introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), would be the first removal of a Cabinet secretary in nearly 150 years.
