The DOJ just launched an investigation into TikTok’s owner for allegedly spying on American citizens including journalists πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³

The DOJ just announced that they’re looking into the owner of TikTok, which we all know is essentially a Chinese spyware app, because there’s a possibility that they may have – you won’t believe this – SPIED on American citizens, including journalists.

The Justice Department is investigating the surveillance of American citizens, including several journalists who cover the tech industry, by the Chinese company that owns TikTok, according to three people familiar with the matter.

The investigation, which began late last year, appears to be tied to the admission in December by the company, ByteDance, that its employees had inappropriately obtained the data of American TikTok users, including that of two reporters and a few of their associates.

An app created by China to numb everyone’s minds with viral videos so that everyone in the world will download it on their phone so China can mine their data is ALSO targeting journalists!

Now THAT is a shocker!

Trump floated the idea of banning TikTok before he left the White House and now, just a few years too late, the Biden administration has decided they need to get tough on the Chinese spy app.

TikTok disclosed this week that the Biden administration had asked its owner to sell the app β€” which is already being blocked from government phones in the U.S., Europe and more than two dozen states β€” or face a possible nationwide ban.

The federal criminal inquiry was reported earlier by Forbes magazine. The journalist who wrote the story said she was one of the people whose data had been tracked by the company.

TikTok is a very bad actor and they are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party which is a digital dictatorship.

Biden is pressuring TikTok to divest, and TikTok wants to meet halfway and just store the data in the United States instead of China (yeah, right).

Republicans in congress, including Josh Hawley, have proposed banning the app outright, and that might be the easiest path forward. Certainly the safest.
