Trump Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

Former President Donald Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize after a leading supporter in Congress acknowledged his work to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East would still be making progress if it weren’t for the setbacks under President Joe Biden.

Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY) put forward Trump’s name on Monday, according to Fox News, citing his “historic” deal between Middle Eastern nations known as the Abraham Peace Accords. The deal normalized diplomatic relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates in 2020.

“Donald Trump was instrumental in facilitating the first new peace agreements in the Middle East in almost 30 years,” Tenney said in a statement. “For decades, bureaucrats, foreign policy ‘professionals’, and international organizations insisted that additional Middle East peace agreements were impossible without a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. President Trump proved that to be false.”

Past Nobel Peace Prize recipients contributed to the peace accord between Israel and Egypt in 1978 as well as the Oslo Accords of 1994, an interim agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as both sides worked toward a permanent settlement. Controversially, former President Barack Obama won the 2009 prize for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” following years of American military engagement in Afghanistan and Iraq.

“The valiant efforts by President Trump in creating the Abraham Accords were unprecedented and continue to go unrecognized by the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, underscoring the need for his nomination today. Now more than ever, when Joe Biden’s weak leadership on the international stage is threatening our country’s safety and security, we must recognize Trump for his strong leadership and his efforts to achieve world peace. I am honored to nominate former President Donald Trump today and am eager for him to receive the recognition he deserves,” Tenney said.

The 45th president and frontrunner to return to the White House was previously nominated several times while in office but was not selected for the award.

President Trump was nominated twice in 2020. A member of the Norwegian Parliament nominated President Trump, citing his efforts to end worldwide conflicts, while a group of Australian lawmakers gave a nod to his anti-war stances abroad.

“What he has done with the Trump Doctrine is that he has decided he would no longer have America involved in endless wars, wars which achieve nothing but the killing of thousands of young Americans and enormous debts imposed on America,” Australian legal scholar David Flint told Sky News Australia at the time. “He’s reducing America’s tendency to get involved in any and every war.”

The following year, he was nominated for helping to secure an economic treaty between Serbia and Kosovo. Laura Huhtasaari, an MEP and a member of the right-wing Swedish Finns Party, submitted Trump’s name “in recognition of his endeavors to end the era of endless wars, construct peace by encouraging conflicting parties for dialogue and negotiations, as well as underpin internal cohesion and stability of his country.”
