During Wednesday’s Senate Judiciary hearing, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) upbraided President Biden’s circuit court judge nominee Myrna Pérez over her statements that GOP-led voting reforms were “the biggest voting rights rollback since the Jim Crow era,” which Lee called an “insult” to those who participated in the Civil Rights Movement.

Emails of Major Federal Prosecutor Offices Hacked By The Russians: DOJ

After some investigations, Justice Department says the email accounts were compromised between May 7 to Dec. 27, 2020. This was around the same time as the Solar Winds hack.

The Russians in carrying out the SolarWinds hacking campaign also exploited for themselves weaknesses in Microsoft software to access the email accounts of prominent federal prosecutors’ offices last year, the Justice Department posited.

Around the country, at least 27 U.S. attorney’s offices had at least one employee email hacked. Eighty percent of accounts used by employees in the four U.S. attorney offices in New York were breached. New York prosecutors are the largest source of financial crime cases.

“The Department is responding to this incident as if the Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) group responsible for the SolarWinds breach had access to all email communications and attachments found within the compromised O365 accounts,” it said.

Three months ago, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on Moscow over the SolarWinds hack and alleged interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The Russian Federation has denied this allegation of wrongdoing.
The full list of hacked offices include:

DOJ Sues Texas Over Abbott’s Order to Restrict Illegal Aliens Amid Pandemic

On Friday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) sued the state of Texas and Governor Greg Abbott over an executive order he issued. The major aim of the order is to limit the ground transportation of illegal aliens.

Gov. Abbott, a Republican, posited that the executive order issued Wednesday is to “reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure” in communities of Texas, amid the increment in CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus infections in the state, including among illegal aliens.

Attorney General Merrick Garland of DOJ asked Abbott to displace the executive order and threatened to file a lawsuit on Thursday.

The DOJ on Friday,  also filed its complaint with the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas in El Paso. “No State may obstruct the Federal Government in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the DOJ stated in its complaint.

“The executive order violates the Supremacy Clause and causes injury to the United States and to individuals whom the United States is charged to protect, jeopardizing the health and safety of noncitizens in federal custody, risking the safety of federal law enforcement personnel and their families, and exacerbating the spread of COVID-19 in our communities,” the complaint filed read.

“The executive order obstructs the Federal Government’s arrangements with nongovernmental partners and directly interferes with the administration of federal immigration law,” it adds. “This Court should declare the executive order to be invalid and enjoin its enforcement.”

Abbott’s order empowers no person other than a federal, state, or local law-enforcement official to give ground transportation to illegal immigrants who have been detained by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents. It also gives the state’s Department of Public Safety the power to stop any vehicle suspected of carrying illegal aliens and send them back.

As a norm now,  the Border Patrol agents apprehends not less than 20,000 Illegal Aliens in a Week.

Gov. Abbott further alleges that the Biden administration “intentionally imports immigrants that are positive with COVID-19 into Texas from across the border—willfully exposing Texans and Americans alike.”

Ted Cruz’s question That Silenced Biden Intel Official About China Sanctions During Testimony

Sen. Ted. Cruz (Republican) was met with an absolute silence during a congressional hearing when he questioned a panel of cybersecurityofficials on why China has not been sanctioned following the countless attack on Microsoft and other U.S. companies.

“Let me ask anyone on the panel,” Cruz posited on Tuesday during the hearing, directing his question at three witnesses, Biden’s officials. “Do you have an answer as to why the administration has not sanctioned China for repeated cyberattacks over and over and over again against the United States?”

He was then met with an absolute silence from the officials testifying. They were from the FBI, Justice Department, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

“Well, I think that’s a question that the administration should answer,” he then continued. “And showing weakness to China and weakness to Russia only invites more aggression and more cyberattacks attacking our nation.”

The question came consequently, after the Biden administration this month put the blame on China’s Ministry of State Security

for the hack against the Microsoft Exchange Server, which compromised tens of thousands of computer systems around the world.

President Biden was also asked last Monday of reasons the U.S. did not sanction China this month but he said officials were still “determining exactly what happened.”

Earlier this year, however, the Biden administration had moved to sanction Russia with respect to the SolarWinds cyberattack.

“My understanding is that the Chinese government, not unlike the Russian government, is not doing this themselves but are protecting those who are doing it and maybe even accommodating them being able to do it,” Biden said of the difference between Chinese and Russian hacking. “That may be the difference.”
