Chase Merrill was ecstatic when he got behind the wheel of his new Rivian R1S. It was love at first drive. But his honeymoon phase ended when, on a trip to the mountains, his electric SUV got stuck in a snowdrift. Merrill tried to free his car, accidentally setting off a safety feature that bricked the vehicle. Yikes! After having the R1S towed to a service center at a cost of $2,100, Merrill is thinking of switching to a gas-powered truck. Double yikes!

This isn’t the first time that some Rivian fans have felt let down. Early adopters have reportedly grown impatient with the delays in getting their vehicles. Many are losing hope that their Rivians will ever arrive, and are starting to consider ordering other electric models instead. But it’s not all bad news for Rivian. JD Power recently ranked the EV startup at the top of its EV ownership study.

Rivian is trying to improve customer relationships by offering options for faster delivery and more transparency on delivery delays.
