A student at a Catholic high school in Canada was arrested after protesting against transgender people using the bathroom of their choice and saying there are only two genders. Josh Alexander, 16, was suspended from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Renfrew, Ontario for his beliefs and later arrested for trying to attend class despite the suspension. Josh is appealing the suspension to Ontario’s human rights tribunal.
He had been suspended since November for his views on the bathroom and was told he could only return to school if he stopped using the “dead name” of transgender students and avoided classes with transgender students who disagreed with his views on the bathroom. Josh’s suspension has been in effect since January and he doesn’t know if it will continue next year. The appeal will be heard later this month, but there has been a technical issue about whether Josh is independent from his parents. The school principal cannot comment on the case due to Canadian law.
