King Charles III just made history as the first monarch in Britain to be on stamps without a crown! The Royal Mail announced the new stamps featuring King Charles on Wednesday. The stamps have a simple design with just the king’s profile, created by sculptor Martin Jennings. According to the Royal Mail’s director of external affairs, David Gold, King Charles wanted it to be simple and a “very human image, with no embellishment.”

This is a big change compared to previous monarchs, who always had a crown on their stamps. The king is the 7th monarch to appear on the regular postage stamps and with the UK making the transition from Queen Elizabeth II to King Charles, coins and new banknotes featuring the king will also be in circulation soon.

The stamps will be available for purchase starting April 4th in the UK. However, the public will have to wait a year to see King Charles on banknotes as the late Queen’s banknotes will still be in circulation for now.
